Hi Reader,

I hope this email finds you well.

World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day is a global event on June 8th dedicated to honoring the beauty, importance, and preservation of our oceans. It serves as a reminder of the critical role oceans play in sustaining life on Earth and the need for collective action to protect and conserve them.

It's a great excuse to get out and enjoy the ocean or maybe get more involved in an event such as:

  1. Find an event: Whether it's a Beach Clean-Up or watching a movie like Mission Blue or High Seas.
  2. Improve your Ocean Literacy by reading and learning more about how it works, and why it's important.
  3. Get the kids involved: The World Ocean Day website has some great resources from coloring pages to sea creature cards they can collect.
  4. Sign a petition or join a movement:
    1. Demand a strong Global Plastics Treaty
    2. Support the High Seas Treaty Ratification
    3. Join the Take 3 for the Sea movement
  5. Make a plastic fish with the Plastic Fisherman. A global initiative aimed at raising awareness about marine plastic pollution. Participants are encouraged to pick up five pieces of plastic, craft them into a fish, snap a photo, and share it on Instagram (#plasticfishing). Check the website for events, or create your own plastic fish!

6. World Ocean Day is a great time to learn more about plastics in the oceans. I recently enjoyed watching this video debunking 9 myths about ocean plastic pollution:

What does recycling have to do with the ocean?

By recycling, you play a crucial role in preventing materials from escaping into the environment. Additionally, you contribute to building a robust industry that values these items, thereby reducing the likelihood of them ending up in the environment.

By recycling materials, particularly plastic, we can prevent them from entering the environment and the ocean. Additionally, recycling conserves natural resources and reduces energy consumption. By developing a robust recycling industry, we can ensure that our waste has value and lower the risk of it ending up in the environment.

Happy Recycling!
